Feeling surrounded?

2 Kings 6:15 When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.

Sometimes hell can seem all we see. It feels like we are surrounded by the enemy’s forces with nowhere to go. We then need to have our eyes opened by the Holy Spirit. We need to ask God, as it were, for an eye surgery.

There was once a man of God who was surrounded by forces of darkness. His name was Elisha. He and his servant were staying in a city called Dothan. During the night the enemy came and surrounded that city. We read that the servant asked “Oh no, my Lord, what shall we do?”

“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
(2 Kings 6:15-17)

Do you see this? Darkness had surrounded Elisha but light had sur- rounded darkness! “An army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city” (verse 15) yet when the Lord opened the servant’s eyes he saw the “hills full of horses and chariots of fire” (verse 17). Do you see it? The city was surrounded by an army of darkness, but around this army was an even greater army of light, occupying the hills.

Cry out to the God of the invisible. Know that whatever surrounds you, it is surrounded by an even bigger army from heaven!
