Offerings of Dedication

Numbers 7:2 Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of families who were the tribal leaders in charge of those who were counted, made offerings.

The 12 leaders of Israel offered the same sacrifice, and it’s interesting to see that the same sacrifice was repeated 12 times using the same specifications.

At first, you wonder why did Moses have to repeat the same sentence over and over again, and he could have just briefly presented the leaders and their sacrifices as he did in Numbers 7:84-88?

Here are some reasons why:

  • God is an intentional God: God received every offering collectively and individually at the same time. The offerings were the same, but they were individually repeated as God valued and received them personally. For instance, when we pray as a church or country, God hears our collective prayers, and He also knows our individual cries.
  • God is a relationship God: Every Israelite leader and their father’s names were mentioned to emphasise on the covenant that God had with each tribe. God knew each leader’s name, and so does He with you. God knows your name, and he wants to have a personal relationship with you and with your future generations.

The offerings of dedication look different today, but we all know that when we surrender our lives to the LORD, there are some things, habits and sometimes people that we have to leave at the altar.

And remember, God acknowledges every sacrifice you make to be closer to Him!

Thought of the day:
What is one thing you need to bring at the altar today that the Lord may say: This is the offering of “insert your name” son/daughter of “insert your father’s name“.
