The power of corporate prayer

2 Chronicles 30:27 The priests and the Levites stood to bless the people, and God heard them, for their prayer reached heaven, his holy dwelling place.

The people of God knew how to celebrate a feast. The feast started at a time later than usual. That is because there was not enough preparation and consecration. However, once it started, notice what happened.

First of all, they repented from sin. Before celebrating, they consecrated themselves and turned away from what was wrong (verse 14).. Secondly, they acknowledged that their sins were placed upon an innocent Lamb. Faith in what Jesus has done for us, is the starting point for celebration (verse 15). Thirdly, they received healing even though some had not purified themselves. This happened because the King prayed and the Levites interceded for them (verses 18, 19, 20). After this, they celebrated for fourteen days! Something like this had not been seen in Israel since the days of Solomon (verses 23 to 26).

Finally, the priests and Levites blessed the people, and God heard them, for their prayer reached heaven. Note that it says ‘their prayer’ (singular), and not ‘their prayers’. It was many people praying one prayer, instead of many people praying many different prayers. There was unity in corporate prayer. And God heard that kind of prayer. When we unite in prayer, and have our hearts set on God, God will hear. Such is the power of corporate, unified prayer!
