Weeping may stay for the night but rejoicing comes in the morning

Psalm 30:5 For his anger lasts only a moment,
    but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night,
    but rejoicing comes in the morning.

Psalm 30 travels the human range of emotions. From weeping to rejoicing. From wailing into dancing. From anger to favor and from distress to victory.

This life has a lot of highs and lows. David knew all about them. In this psalm he describes how he felt like he was in the realm of the dead. Yet God rescued him and so there was ample reason for praise.

Sometimes when we are in the valley we cannot see a way out and it feels like we will stay there forever. Psalm 30 promises us that delivery will last longer than defeat and victory longer than distress. His anger lasts “only a moment” but his favor “lasts a lifetime”.

There is time for weeping.

But rejoicing comes in the morning.

In the end, we will rejoice.
In the end, all tears will be wiped away, all pain forgotten.
In the end, his favor will last more than a lifetime.
