What are you offering?

Numbers 29:2 On that day you must present a burnt offering as a pleasing aroma to the Lord . It will consist of one young bull, one ram, and seven one-year-old male lambs, all with no defects. (NLT)

God commanded the people of Israel to present additional offerings to the Lord at the annual festivals. The annual festival’s offerings were additional to other sacrifices and offerings such as voluntary offerings, burnt offerings, grain offerings, liquid offerings, or peace offerings. Israelites needed a lot of animals with no defects!

My parents are part-time farmers, and I know that the chances of producing animals with no defects are much lower than the ones with defects. Which shows that God’s request to the Israelites was a demanding sacrifice, but the people of Israel were obedient.

Today, God is not asking us for bulls or rams anymore because His only son Jesus Christ gave himself up as a sacrifice on the cross to take all of our sins away. However, God is asking for our time, attention and overall our obedience to His words.

Even though sometimes it might be uncomfortable to surrender our lives to God, we ought to remember that we don’t have to do it with our own strength. Jesus asked the Father to give us another advocate to help us and be with us forever because God knew that we couldn’t do it on our own (John 16:7).

Let’s declare it today:
Today, I accept to be guided by the Spirit of the Lord to offer my life as a living sacrifice to Jesus Christ. My life and obedience to God are my offerings to the Lord now and forevermore. Amen.
