When you have the King, you have all that you need

2 Samuel 19:30 Mephibosheth said to the king, “Let him take everything, now that my lord the king has returned home safely.”

Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan, David’s friend. He was the sole survivor of Saul’s household and was lame at both feet. David gave him a place at his own table in 2 Samuel 9.

Ziba, who used to serve in Saul’s household, now served Mephibosheth. He had 15 sons and 20 servants, who all worked the land for one man: Mephibosheth. But this changes in chapter 19. David orders these two men to divide the land between them. The response of Mephibosheth is telling: “let him take everything, now that my lord the king has returned”.

In other words: I do not mind having nothing, since when I have the king, I have all that I need.

This is the exact same attitude David himself penned down in Psalm 23: “The Lord is my Shepherd. I have everything I need.”

Today, if you feel like you lack anything, just remember who your father is. When your father is the King, you have all that you need!
